{"id":3955,"date":"2018-06-08T14:50:05","date_gmt":"2018-06-08T12:50:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.msf.sma.unipi.it\/collections\/"},"modified":"2018-06-08T14:50:05","modified_gmt":"2018-06-08T12:50:05","slug":"collections","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.msf.sma.unipi.it\/en\/collections\/","title":{"rendered":"Collections"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"western\" lang=\"it-IT\"><span lang=\"en-US\">The Physics Instruments Museum preserves the collections of the Physics Department.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"western\" lang=\"it-IT\"><strong><span lang=\"en-US\">Scientific Instruments<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n<p class=\"western\" lang=\"it-IT\"><span lang=\"en-US\">The section dedicated to instruments is very rich and heterogeneous, testifying the variety of scientific collections belonging to the Physics Department.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\" lang=\"it-IT\"><span lang=\"en-US\">The instruments cover a range stretching <strong>from the 17th century to the present day<\/strong>. A lot of information is provided about each instrument: the description of the instrument, its purpose, its use, a technical data sheet, an explanation of the restoration operations (even if some instruments still need to be restored), some historical notes and an essential bibliography.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\" lang=\"it-IT\"><span lang=\"en-US\">The instruments are divided by type: mechanics &#8211; astronomy &#8211; electromagnetism &#8211; time measurement &#8211; optics &#8211; various instruments &#8211; acoustics &#8211; machine tools.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\" lang=\"it-IT\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.fondazionegalileogalilei.it\/museo\/collezioni\/strumenti_scientifici\/str_scientifici.html\"><span lang=\"en-US\">http:\/\/www.fondazionegalileogalilei.it\/museo\/collezioni\/strumenti_scientifici\/str_scientifici.html<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\" lang=\"it-IT\"><span lang=\"en-US\">In particular, the Museum preserves the <strong>inventions made by Antonio Pacinotti<\/strong>, starting from the famous <strong>machine<\/strong>, the first DC dynamo-engine, to the electromagnetic traction devices. All these inventions are part of the <strong>Pacinotti Collection<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\" lang=\"it-IT\"><span lang=\"en-US\">The restoration work carried out on 17 instruments &#8211; by Carlo Guidi &#8211; has revitalized this great heritage of the University of Pisa making it available to the public through exhibitions and publications.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\" lang=\"it-IT\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.fondazionegalileogalilei.it\/fondo_pacinotti\/strumenti_pacinotti\/strumenti_p.html\"><span lang=\"en-US\">http:\/\/www.fondazionegalileogalilei.it\/fondo_pacinotti\/strumenti_pacinotti\/strumenti_p.html<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"western\" lang=\"it-IT\"><strong><span lang=\"en-US\">Archives<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n<p class=\"western\" lang=\"it-IT\"><span lang=\"en-US\">The Museum collections are completed by important historical archives, such as the documentary part of the Pacinotti Fund, the Pacinotti Archive, the Fermi-Persico Archive and the Riccardo Felici Archive, currently preserved by the Library of Mathematics, Computer Science and Physics and therefore by the University Library System (see on the page<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\" lang=\"it-IT\"><span lang=\"en-US\">https:\/\/www.sba.unipi.it\/it\/biblioteche\/polo-3\/matematica-informatica-fisica\/fondi-speciali-e-antichi).<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Physics Instruments Museum preserves the collections of the Physics Department.
